"A DANCERS TALE"

AT THE PAVILION THEATRE, RHYL

 

I would like to congratulate 2 young dancers who have recently gained 2 outstanding titles:

Lucy Slater - Junior Welsh Modern Champion

Emily Wyn Roberts - Junior Welsh Ballet Champion & Runner up to Lucy in the Junior Welsh Modern Championships!

Both Lucy and Emily will hold the titles for 12 months, Emily will go on to compete in the Junior Natinal Ballet Championships later in the year at the Blackpool Opera House!

 

 

 

 

Once again the Panto season is upon us! Well done to all the dancers who auditioned for this years production at the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre, we have a lovely team of 8 juveniles and also 2 Seniors in UK Productions Panto 'Snow White'! We also have a team of 16 juvenile dancers and 1 senior in LHK Productions Panto 'Cinderella' at the Stiwt Theatre, Wrexham.

3 of our pupils have successfully audtioned for the Northern Associates! Such a fantastic opportunity to train with some of the UK's top dance teachers.

Back in June we were very lucky travel down to London to support Sarah Evans in the Janet Cram Finals! Such a prestigious event and to get in to the finals is a huge privledge!

 

In March 45 yound NWSD dancers were lucky enough to
take part in a huge event at the LIVERPOOL ECHO ARENA, LIVERPOOL. Not only were
they lucky enough to perform on the stage where many of their idols have
performed, they were also lucky to have taken part in numerous masterclasses
througout the day with Marquelle Ward ( Britannia High ) and West End Star,
Emma Dears! It was a long day but worth every minute to see their performance
in such an exclusive event!


In January, the girls that make up the group of
SCREAM competed in another amazing venue The Blackpool Opera House!!! NWSD had
got through to the finals of a huge North West Competition and certainly did us
proud!!

One of NWSD'S teachers, Dawn Hughes-Conroy has
landed an excellent Choreography job with Chester based hairdressers, 'Denton
& Hyde'! Dawn has choreographed a piece for the Schwarzkopf Creative
Competition which takes place at the Hilton Hotel, Manchester on Sunday 22nd
May. 3 NWSD dancers have been selected to perform the piece at the event! Good
luck to Rebecca Williams, Hanna Roberts and Eve Jones! Photos to follow!

On 29th May 6 NWSD dancers will represent the
school at the ISTD Janet Cram awards! This year the event is to be held in
York! Good luck to Sophie Baker, Georgia Gibbs, Lucy Slater, Sarah Evans,
Chelsey Brown and Natalie De Vera Davey!

We have taken part in lots of festivals since
January with excellent results! the most recent competition being the Welsh
Championships! Huge congratulations must go to Georgia Gibbs who gained 3rd
place in the Junior Modern Championships, Eleanor Harrison who gained 2nd place
in the age 10 and under Song & Dance section and also to every pupil who
took part, you were all a credit to the school.

Excellent exam results have been awarded to
everyone who has taken exams this year. Well done!

On 2nd June, NWSD will be performing alongside West
End Star, Lydia Griffiths and Paul Dubek in a show at the Rhyl Town Hall in aid
of Superkids, NorthWales. Please come along and support the event!

Winter 2010

Panto season is under way now,,,, 33 NWSD pupils successfully auditioned for Professional Pantomimes in the area:

6 Juveniles and 3 Seniors are appearing in Peter Pan at the Pavilion Theatre, Rhyl.

7 Juveniles and 1 Senior are appearing in Aladdin at the William Aston Hall, Wrexham.

16 Juveniles and 1 Senior are appearing in Snow White at the Stiwt Theatre, Wrexham.

Huge Congratulations and Good Luck wishes go to Ex Pupil of NWSD Sarah Wyn Jones! Sarah ( stage name Zarah) will be playing the part of Brenda and understudying the part of Linda in the West End Production of BLOOD BROTHERS at the Phoenix Theatre, London! Zarah is going to email her dates to me and we will arrange a trip to see her!!!

 

Well done to everyone who competed at the Elton Festival last weekend.Excellent results with trophies going to Lucy Slater for Highest Marked Classical Solo, Molly Thomas for highest marked Tap and to Sarah Evans for Most Promising Senior Dancer!

I would like to say a big well done to Amilia Turner Evans who has successfully auditioned as a juvenile dancer and to Jenna Beavan who got the part of a dwarf in this years Panto at the Stiwt theatre, Wrexham......they will be appearing alongside Sonia and Dale from Big Brother. 

Well it's going to be a busy Christmas for NWSD!! On Tuesday 22 pupils auditioned for UK Productions Panto at the Pavilion Theatre successful dancers this year are : Georgia, Sophie, Eleanor H, Eleanor T W, .Ellie and Tia! Well done! 5 of our senior dancers also auditioned and I am very proud to say Natalie, Rebecca and ex pupil Sophie were all successful and will perform in each perfomance!!

We were also asked to audition for the first professional Panto at the William Aston Hall in Wrexham. There were 42 young juniors auditioning for 16 places......due to the standard being so high they took 24 and I am very pleased to say 7 of them are NWSD girls!! Lucy S, Jess W, Magi D, Bethan J, Elan & Erin M Jones and Chelsey B! Molly T was also succesful as a seniior dancer!!

I will post all performances for both Panots closer to the time!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all the pupils that are leaving to attend University or College the best of luck. Sophia, Sioned, Steph, Brittany, Taryn and Lasika...you will all be sadly missed! Keep in touch.

And I would also like to wish Lucy Newton lots of luck from all of us at NWSD as she sets sail on her first professional contract after leaving Merseyside. Lucy will rehearse in Nice before joining MSC Cruise lines to perform onboard one of their prestigios Cruise Ships and sail around South America.....!!! Good luck..we will be thinking of you!!

 

 

I would like to congratulate ex-pupil LUCY NEWTON on an outstanding performance in her final performance at Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre! Lucy took the lead of Satine in the Musical Theatre production of Moulin Rouge!! We would all like to wish Lucy the best of luck as she graduates from college and starts auditioning!

We would also like to wish ex-pupil SOPHIE WILLIAMS lots of luck.....Sophie has completed and passed with flying colours her Law degree and now has a year out...in which she would like to pursue a dancing career!

Sioned Roberts and Stephanie Estlick are both leaving us this year to further their training in the world of dance and Musical Theatre! Sioned has accepted a place at Preston University to take a Musical Theatre degree and Steph has accepted a place at Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre! They will be sadly missed but we wish them both the best of luck.....!

I would like to say a huge well done to 4 girls that represented the school at the Janet Cram awards! On 16th May, Natalie De Vera Davey, Molly Thomas, Georgia Gibbs and Sarah Evans travelled to the Dancehouse in Manchester to compete in the prestigious Janet Cram awards! This is the first time we have entered anyone into the said competition...what an experience..........all four girls danced beautifully and we were so incredibly proud of them all!

 

Widnes Challenge Day 1st April 2010

Fantastic results at the festival today:

Sarah Evans not only won 3 of  her sections but also bagged the 'INTER CABARET DANCER' award and the prestigious ' DANCER OF THE FESTIVAL AWARD'!! Well done Sarah, your performances today were outstanding!

Everyone who took part danced beautifully and you were all a credit to the school!

On Sunday 28th March we had competitors in the Nancy Clarke Festival for the 2nd year running......well done to Eleanor Harrison who got 2nd place in the Under 10 Entertainer Section and Well done to Sarah Evans who got 3rd Place in the Junior Entertainer Section.

Well done to all the dancers who took part in the evening show.....once again we had many comments about how professional you all are!

" STAGE VS SCREEN SPECTACULAR" on 11th & 12th June 2010 at the Pavilion Theatre, Rhyl.

Please look at our notice boards for all fund raising info....lots of events coming up over the next couple of months!! From an Easter egg colourinig comp for the little ones to a Ghost Hunt for the adults...............!!!!!!

I have recently introduced 'LITTLE BEAR FEET' to NWSD. The class is specially developed for boys & girls aged 18 months to 24 months. Parents are invited to participate in the class. It's lots of fun as we explore Nursery Rhyme Land with Melody Bear! For class details please see the 'MELODY BEAR PAGE' or contact Lisa direct.

NORTH WALES SCHOOL OF DANCING ARE MUSICAL THEATRE YOUNG SINGER FINALISTS!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO EVRYONE WHO PERFORMED IN THE PRE-LIM HEATS!!! YOU WERE ALL FANTASTIC.

ALSO HUGE CONGRATULATIONS GO TO ELEANOR TWIGDON-WILLIAMS AND SARAH EVANS WHO ARE ALSO SOLO FINALISTS!!!!

ELEANOR IS TAUGHT BY OUR VERY OWN SIONED AND SARAH ATTENDS NORTH WALES MUSIC SCHOOL! WELL DONE BOTH OF YOU!

WE HAVE ALSO RECENTLY ATTENDED 2 FESTIVALS THE FIRST BEING WIDNES AT THE END OF JAN AND THIS WEEKEND WE HAVE BEEN IN WREXHAM...... THE RESULTS HAVE BEEN OUTSTANDING!!!

 With the success of our Inter and Senior Show/Festival groups we have decided to invite the juniors to join a new group forming on a Friday evening. This is open to pupils that attend 2 or more classes per week. You must be in Grade 1 or Grade 2 and numbers are limited. The group rehearsal will be on a Friday at the Wellington Centre, 5:30pm - 6:15pm, starting on Fri 15th Jan. The group will then be able to participate in festivals and shows that we are constantly  getting asked to do. If you are interested please contact Lisa.

There is a slight change to a Friday timetable which I will update on the website over the weekend.

Please check with myself or Dawn about the new structure for a Saturday........this involves the Inter and Senior show/festival teams.....

 

A huge congratulations goes to Molly Thomas who successfully auditioned for The Nutcracker with the English Youth Ballet Company.Molly will appear at Southport Theatre on 1st & 2nd Dec.

On 21st Nov we were invited back to the Empire Theatre, Liverpool to perform in 'Kids Verses Cancer 3'. I would like to say THANK YOU to all the pupils involved in this show. Your performances were outstanding and once again I was very proud! I would also like to thank all the chaperones on behalf of all the pupils and parents.

31st October, The Ruthin Tap & Modern classes were invited to perform in 'SPOOKTACULAR', what a great night. Thank you also to Lucy Slater who performed her festival solos!

On 25th Oct we were invited to perform at 'Her Majestys Theatre' London........WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!!! To perform on the same stage as Judy Garland and many more of the 'greats' was just an opportunity only many can dream of! It was a very long day but so worth it! Again your performances were clean, polished and professional! Well done!  

Clwyd Stage Dance Festival......Well done to everyone who competed. We had fantastic results once again. I must commend Sarah Evans who was presented with an Adjudicators cghoice award for 'MOST PROMISING SENIOR CABARET DANCER'.......Well done Sarah!!!!!

 

 

 

 

Huge congratulations got to ELEANOR TWIGDON - WILLIAMS, LUCY SLATER AND EMILY WYN- ROBERTS.....all 3 successfully auditioned for English Youth Ballet Company. They will appear in the EYT production of SLEEPING BEAUTY on the 18th & 19th Sept in Shrewsbury.......
